Good for Beginning Yogis Aug 27, 2011
By Jasmine Schaefer I initially bought this mat as an "upgrade" from my first yoga mat. I do intense ashanti yoga 3-4 times a week for 1.5-2 hrs a session and purchased this mat in particular because I wasn't sure if I wanted to hash out the money for a brand name mat. The thickness of this mat was what I found most appealing about it because my knees can't take on mermaid pose with a thin mat. The texture of the mat is also pretty good, due to it's thickness it allows you to grip more and slip less. But unfortunately after 2 months of use my mat looks like it has taken a beating with the amount of wear and tear that it's accumulated.
Overall, if you're a beginner and you're not quite sure where you want to go with your practice, I would definitely suggest this mat due to it's price and better quality than other mats that are in the same price range. But if you're looking for something long term and durable, look elsewhere.

Very good mat at reasonable price Mar 30, 2010
By diggy Does all that a yoga mat should. It's reasonably sticky, thick enough to use on a hard floor comfortably, and rolls up to fit a standard strap harness. Not too heavy when carrying. I don't know why you'd need anything else. I'm 6'0" and it's big enough for me. I also think the dark brown color is nice and understated.
Based on my experience, I wouldn't hesitate to buy other Gaiam products.
Tip: If your mat becomes less sticky, just wash it with soap and water and it'll be sticky again.

Perfect for my needs. Nice padding, comfortable, and sticky! Apr 07, 2011

I am a beginner, and this is my first Yoga mat - but its perfect for my needs. Long enough for me, and sticky enough for traction on all poses.
My only tip is leave outside for a few hours when you first open to get rid of the smell. After that, should have no problems!
Great value!

Great mat Jan 05, 2011
By Refugina I've been practicing on this mat for about 10 months and it is my favorite mat. It hasn't held up to the test of time. It has some visible wear on it in spots. I practice daily though and so I expect to wear out my mats which is why I seek values (like this one!) when purchasing new ones. The mats thickness is great for those who are seeking some cushion for knees. Love the color. I bought Chai and it's deep, dark brown...almost like a cherry wood color. I still use this mat although it's become a back up mat due to the wear. I practiced on this mat on the morning of my wedding day and so I am partial to it! :) Recommended.

Great thickness and feel Mar 24, 2011
By Ren This mat is very nice. As I am on the heavier side, thinner mats can end up not giving me enough support and hurting my knees, etc. This thickness is just right. It has enough padding but is not too heavy when carrying. While it isn't slip-resistant (especially if you are sweaty), it is not as slippery as the other mats I've used. It did smell when I first un-packaged it. It was not a strong smell, but it permeated the room. But after letting it air out outside for a day, it was fine. I definitely recommend it.
