Works great for measuring the upper body Jun 08, 2009
By Brian Johnson A common misconception about body fat scales is that it provides a percentage glimpse of your entire body, when in fact, body fat scales measure the resistance of the shortest points connecting the two sensors.
For instance, a foot/floor body fat scale will measure the resistance from foot A through the groin and back down to foot B. This is a good scale to understand the body fat in your lower body. A hand grip body fat scale, such as the Omron, is great for measuring the upper body since the shortest points are from hand A through the chest to hand B.
I use both the Omron hand grip fat analyzer and a floor body fat scale to determine either an average or where I have a greater proportion of fat -- in my case, my lower body. This is my genetics, but without using both scales I may not have know the difference other than where the fat builds on the body first (e.g. love handles or bum).
The Omron body fat analyzer is a great machine. High quality. Accurate and fast. Easy to program a user, or users, or repeated use. This is the same analyzer my personal trainer uses, who pointed out the two-scale method, and also recommended holding the Omron straight out from the body (parallel to floor) for an optimal reading.
I'd buy this body fat analyzer for myself again or a friend in a heart beat.
