Really, Really Happy With This Purchase!! Dec 03, 2011
By Super Sweet Sale Pros ----- Well built, feels very sturdy Quiet operation Smooth motion Easy to select courses, duration, intensity, etc. Gives amazing workouts Has a nice e-book reader, which allows me to put my Amazon Kindle Fire on it, surf the internet, watch movies, listen to music, etc.
Cons ---- Took 3 hours to build, requires at least 2 people The display is not back-lit, so depending on your room lighting it may be difficult to read The mp3 speakers are laughable (my cell phone speaker and Amazon Kind Fire speaker are twice as loud and clear) The fan is also laughable (I have it on all the time, but it barely moves any air, and you can hardly tell the difference between low, medium, and high)
Overall ------- I wasn't expecting much from the display, fan, or speakers, and it's a shame they're all underwhelming. Looking past that though, the elliptical itself is amazing. Best bang for buck elliptical in my opinion. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a well-built budget elliptical. Really, the only reason I'm not giving it a perfect score is I hope Schwinn sees my Cons and improves them in later iterations of this product. But personally they do not bug me, and they shouldn't prevent you from making this purchase. I have a nearby computer with kick-butt speakers to get some music going. And the e-reader holder entirely makes up for the weak display. Toss a Kindle Fire in the e-reader holder, and you have a 7" touch-screen with everything you can imagine at your finger tips.

Machine fine, console readout horrible Jan 01, 2012
By earl meseth Purchased the Schwinn 420 for Christmas. In-the-box weight is about 170 pounds so you need help moving it around to unpack. Assemble was pretty easy and took about 1 1/2 hours. Comes with Allen wrench and Phillips screw driver on long end (wish they has separated the tools). The machine works fine, very quiet and easy to use. Why Schwinn/Nautilus would have designed such a poor console to track time, distance, calories, etc. is really beyond me. The display area is about 4 x 2 inches and is exceedingly hard to see. The numbers displayed are hard to read and seems to be reflected against the background so that you actually see two numbers offset from each other. Besides, the lines of the numbers are pencil thin and can only be read in good light. The fan is pretty useless as is the speaker array. There is a good place to hold an iPad or Nook and a huge area against which you could lean an iPad. The console will only keep track of the stats for one user; everyone else needs to use a "guest" designation and all stats are lost when the machine is turned off. Five stars for the machine, 0-1 for the console. Shame on you Schwinn!

Great, quiet workout elliptical machine Nov 23, 2011
By JMN I have been looking for an elliptical machine for a while, and the Schwinn 420 (2012) model does the trick. Great value and easy to set up, I have used this for a few months now with great results. The length is perfect at just over 5', so it works much better than larger machines for homes without much floorspace, like mine. The digital display is a bit tough to read (it is not backlit), but the workout and adjustable degree of difficulty is comparable with more expensive machines. Recommended.

Nice machine....But... Jan 16, 2012
By coffee dude first the good. Well made steel construction, smooth and quiet glide. Large size, looks and feels like something in a gym. Two hours to assemble is not bad considering the amount of parts. They have added a fan and an MP3 connection with ipad holder and water bottle holder that was not on the previous version. Price is good on first look...but. Now the bad. No way to adjust machine for size of user. If you are under 5' 9" this machine will be a stretch for you to feel comfortable on. The info panel, fan and ipod holder face upward, about 45 degrees, unless you are 6' 4" you will not feel the fan or see the info screen and seeing your ipad or magazine is out of the question. The info screen is not lit or LED so it is useless and way too small, they made it smaller than previous models to incorporate the other features. Unless you have super perfect eyesite there is no way to see or read this thing. Fan is small and weak even on full speed. I called Schwinn and asked about updates and maybe recalls and they said they have no complaints or plans for changes at the moment. If they made the machine slightly adjustable and put the info console on a goose neck that could move up or down this would be an excellent buy. The info readout must be changed to LED or something brighter before it will be usable to less than perfect eyesite users. It is virtually useless to us and we now just use the machine without any of the built in features such as heart rate and exercise programs because we can't see them. The screen is tiny and has tons of info(I think) but not viewable. Schwinn. MAKE THE SCREEN LARGER, keep the fan but put it some place else. I guess I should have bought a more expensive unit, this is all I could afford to spend. Sorry for the long review but it needs to be told

Very good elliptical Feb 17, 2012
By M. Schneider This is a very good elliptical. Amazon's shipping was great. The product was taken into the house and not just left on the curb, which is the way other retailers deliver this kind of equipment. The elliptical was somewhat challenging to assemble but my son and my husband were able to put it together in about 3 hours. My only real complaint is that the display is hard to read, which is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. Other than that, the machine offers a smooth, solid workout. For the price, it is a very good elliptical and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for one. It is a good idea, though, to go to a local store first and try it out since that is really the only way to know if it is the best machine for you.
